How To Do Upholstery Cleaning

Upholstery cleaning (even as you may assume) is actually the procedure of cleaning the covering fabric that usually upholsters your entire furniture. However, the procedure is more challenging than it may seem at first glance. For one thing, upholstery fabric is usually made up of rather delicate natural fibers such as cotton. In addition, even the best machines for cleaning upholstery fabrics can only do so much.

When you get right down to it, upholstery cleaning should be done as infrequently as possible. That said, some experts advise that upholstery cleaning should be kept as often as possible for two reasons. The first reason is to prevent damage to the furniture by keeping it free from dust and dirt particles; the second reason is to preserve the life of the fabric and protect it from damage by stains.

As with carpet cleaning, upholstery cleaning is done primarily to improve indoor air quality. When you have dirt and grime on your furniture, the carpet becomes less resistant to dust and other allergens. In the same way, a dirty couch or heavy drapes to create an ideal condition for mold and mildew to grow. Moreover, when upholstery cleaning is done, there are typically a lot of stains. Such stains can easily damage the fabric.

One of the reasons why upholstery cleaning should be done as infrequently as possible is that it can be difficult to clean without damaging the furniture as well. Upholstery fabric is made up of a number of threads, each interlaced with its own thread. If you attempt to use a machine to clean it without wetting it, you risk the development of a fire. Likewise, since the fabrics are extremely delicate, they are easily damaged by the blades of a vacuum cleaner and even their brushes.

Thus, the best way to regularly clean upholstery is to clean them only once every three months. This can be accomplished by using a vacuum cleaner with a beater bar or by using a brush attachment on your vacuum. For heavy furniture such as couches, it’s best to bring the furniture inside and empty out all the contents first before you start upholstery cleaning. Then empty the vacuum bag thoroughly. Then, wipe all surfaces down with a clean damp cloth.

If the upholstery fabric on your couches is made of cotton, you should avoid using a washing machine. Cotton fabrics are not very good when it comes to being damaged by high temperature. If you want to wash your upholstery using a washing machine, you should try lint-free detergent to prevent the damage from occurring. You can also add 1% bleach to the water in the washing machine for extra protection. If possible, you should try to let the furniture dry in a drying machine before putting it inside your laundry room.
